Together with Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular Italian locations for destination weddings in Italy, both because of its breathtaking scenery and because of the vast number of unforgettable venues with spectacular views, which are perfect for a flawless ceremony and reception, including luxury hotels and private villas overlooking the dramatic cliffside and deep blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
Here are some practical tips to help you organize your wedding on the Amalfi Coast. With enough advance planning, you can take care of all the arrangements yourself, though we suggest hiring a wedding planner locally, especially if you live far from Italy. A professional wedding planner can help you with paperwork, organize transfers, and handle all the complicated logistics of planning an event on the coast, and even suggest photographers, musicians, florists, and other trusted local vendors.
A tip: try to begin your Italian wedding day planning at least a year in advance, as many of the most beautiful venues on the coast book up fast. In some cases, including the Duomo in Amalfi, you have to reserve at least two years in advance!
Church Weddings on the Amalfi Coast
All the churches on the Amalfi Coast are Catholic; you can hold a Protestant wedding ceremony in private venues. As opposed to Capri and Sorrento, the diocese of Amalfi will allow weddings in local churches even when the couple is not a resident of the Amalfi Coast.
Weddings in Positano are usually celebrated in the Chiesa dell’Assunta, located right above the Spiaggia Grande. In Amalfi , couples can exchange their vows in the majestical Duomo di Sant’Andrea while in the near Atrani the collegiate church of St. Maria Maddalena is undoubtedly one of the finest Catholic cathedrals. Many couples choose to hold their wedding in the intimate church of San Pancrazio in Conca dei Marini. In Praiano, the church of San Gennaro is a beautiful backdrop, with a church portico overlooking the sea. All these venues, especially the Duomo in Amalfi, are booked far in advance so try to reserve your date at least a year ahead of time.
