A bed on the beach (well, almost!)

  1. Just three steps and you're on the beach of Marina del Cantone
  2. A delicious fish supper at the "Pappone"' restaurant
  3. The spectacular views of the sea surrounding Nerano

The colors, scent, and sound of the sea. From La Certosa, a charming little 3 star hotel in Massa Lubrense, the beach of Marina del Cantone, and the shimmering sea washing the Bay of Nerano are, quite literally, just 3 steps away.

It is not by chance that the hotel is called La Certosa. The traces of large arches visible on the façade are a reminder of how, in the 15th century, the building served as a monastery. Recent restoration work has ensured that the original barrel vaults and ceramics, typical of the Amalfi Coast, be conserved.

The quintessence of Mediterranean style

A family friendly, quintessentially Mediterranean hotel, La Certosa provides guest accommodation in spacious double, triple and quadruple rooms. A number of sea view bedrooms' open out on to their own private terrace from where to enjoy the sunset, disturbed only be the sound of the waves.

Special seafood

Only the very finest of seasonal ingredients are used to create the delicious local dishes served in "Pappone"'s restaurant. The fish is so fresh and full of flavor that you'll be tempted to eat it raw, accompanied by a glass of one of the fabulous white wines conserved in La Certosa's well-stocked wine cellar.

Enjoy the Amalfi Coast

From La Certosa, just a few steps and you're on the hotel's private beach. This is where guests are likely to spend much of their holiday, basking in the sun or swimming in the incredibly clear and perennially warm Mediterranean sea. Those wishing to explore the area can hop aboard a boat with and sail along the Amalfi Coast, to the nearby towns of Positano and Amalfi or, across the water, to the Island of Capri.

A lovely little hotel in a beautiful secluded spot

We flew to Naples and hand had a driver to take us to the hotel which seemed to take forever given it was all twisty, hilly narrow roads. When we got there is was late and dark and we were initially disappointed as it all looked to be very old and tired. However when we awoke and went for breakfast we discovered the delights of a converted monastery right on the beach with basic by charming furnishings and amenities. Our room was rustic but spacious with a lovely tiled bathroom. Breakfast was always quiet although we did see a few guests now and then. We always went early when we wanted to get the bus into Sorrento. The bus ride took a while but the scenery and people watching was well worth it, plus it cost very little. From Sorrento we got the train to Pompeii and another day, the ferry to Capri. Right next to the hotel is a wooden jetty and from there we enjoyed a boat trip to Amalfi and Positano, complete with interesting commentary on the way. We ate in the restaurant one evening, and in a different restaurant every other night. All were very good and just a stroll away. In the end we felt we had struck lucky and had a fantastic trip.

Fantastic food

Myself and my wife stayed here for 5 days arriving on the 3rd of October, we booked through Tui on a half board deal . The not so good stuff first ……. Breakfast was very basic with no hot food ( scrambled or boiled eggs would be a great addition) Now the good stuff….. the food at dinner time was superb with everything cooked to order and using local ingredients and all very fresh , the best we have had in the six visits to Italy . The hotel was spotless with the room cleaned every day . The family run hotel was very friendly with excellent staff and even let us keep the room for an extra 6 hours at no extra charge. The resort was quiet possibly due to being the end of season, but the bus stop to Sorrento is right outside the hotel…. Thanks for a great holiday

Back with our Italian family

Last year for my wedding anniversary I booked a short break to the beautiful Amalfi coast and we stayed at la Certosa hotel. Our trip was summed up by my wife's review last year on trip advisor. In short Amazing!. So to celebrate this year's anniversary we decided to go back. If im honest it's always a bit of a worry to re-visit a hotel, restaurant and destination that was so amazing the first time. With expectations so high following the first visit and slight worry that our second trip may not be as amazing as the first. We arrived at La Certosa after 9pm due to delays and trafic. We entered the reception a little stressed and tired. Any worry we had and stress was instantly gone as we were greated by the family and recognised and made to feel like family once again. My wife and I dropped the bags to our room and the staff waited for us to come down to the restaurant and make us our dinner. As amazing as we remember! My Spaghetti alla Nerano was better than I remember and if im honest the reason we travelled 2400 kilometres. In short the hotel was better than we remember. The ... Well should say staff but that would be just rude! So....The family are brilliant and couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome and looked after and treated us like family! If your looking for a holiday to the beautiful Amalfi coast that is genuinely the true Italian experience and a real food destination, this is the place for you! Can't wait to be back next year to see Alfonso and the family!!

A little gem

This hotel was a little gem !! It’s family run with excellent additional staff. Everyone so helpful and polite and professional. Clean, beach in front of hotel, restaurant pappone ( part of hotel) is great too especially fish dishes which is majority of options plus excellent wine list. Antonio is a great waiter and chefs are amazing. Alfonso and Alessandro are brothers who own the business and are great chaps. Let me watch football on the tv in lounge as Alfonso had sky sports 👌,ladies in laundry are awesome too, washed my shorts for me for a small fee and the cleaners are first class also. The hotel is a well oiled machine imo and boat trips go to Capri, Positano/Amalfi from the marina in front of the hotel. Buses go to Sorrento, St. Agatha and more. All in all a great place to go !! Thank you everyone at Le Certosa for looking after us 💜
